No matter what kinds of interests you have, there are plenty of people to look up to in the world.
People that have “made it.” People at the top of the game in their respective fields. And when looking at these individuals, many people think it’s just luck and that all the success happened overnight.
It’s easy to forget about (or ignore) the years of struggle it took for these icons to get to the top position.
But, luck is not what most people believe it to be.
It’s not merely a fortunate coincidence. As the great Roman philosopher Seneca said long ago, “Luck is what happens when opportunity meets preparation.”
In other words, an opportunity is not something that falls into your lap without any work from you. You have to put yourself in a position to take advantage of it when it comes along.
Preparation allows you to take action and make the most of an opportunity when it appears. It’s what gets you ready for that breakthrough idea of yours or amazing business idea you had!
So, the next time you think luck is responsible for your good fortune, remember that it’s really an opportunity to meet preparedness.
And that’s a combination you can create for yourself with some effort!
You may be asking yourself, “What about the lottery ticket winners?”
Well, odds are they spent a lot of money throughout their lives on lottery tickets, so they went through that loss to take advantage of the same opportunity others had as well.
But at the end of the day, lottery tickets are just a tax on people who are bad at math.
You have a greater chance of success by applying yourself (another way of saying preparation) and taking advantage of a business idea.
So, the next time you see someone get lucky, don’t be so quick to write it off as what you believed to be “luck.”
You never know what kind of preparation they may have put in to get to that point.
It could be a lot more than you think!
It’s like calling kids finger-painting fake because you didn’t see them make it. It’s simply wrong to assume.
Now that you know what it takes to create your own luck, what will you do? Prepare a little more or create an opportunity for yourself?
The choice is yours.
When it comes to business, there are a lot of things that can be said of how people got to where they are, but it takes a true entrepreneur to see the work that went into it and the luck accumulated over time.
